Getting Started
Where to find coupons and build your stash
Finding coupons:
The most obvious place to find coupons is to buy the Sunday paper. Many people ask if it is worth spending money on coupons. In my opinion, Yes it is. If I spend $2 on a Sunday paper and save $50-$100 it is well worth my $2 investment. That said I don't spend more than $6 a week on papers. If I know there will be lots of inserts, such as the first Sunday of the month, I will buy 3 papers.
The second place to find papers is your local recycling bins. I know some people are very opposed to "dumpster diving", however recycling bins are usually very clean and you can just pull out the coupon inserts. It's amazing how many people just throw them away.
You can also check local coffee shops where people buy papers to read and leave them on the table. You may want to ask the owner if you can leave a newspaper recycling box there and tell them you will regularly come and empty it free of charge. This works in your favor and theirs.
Another great source is friends and family. Tell everyone to save any coupons they won't use for you.
You can also find coupons on ebay, however I would only buy them off there if it is a really great deal that will save you a lot of money.
You can also visit craigslist.org or freecycle.org and place want ads for coupons.
These are several ways to get you well on your way to building up a nice stash of coupons!
In my next post I will talk about organizing your coupons.
