We had a really fun BBQ this past weekend with our best friends. They are the Godparents of our children and we are the Godparents of theirs. It is so wonderful because we all get along so well. Danika is best buddies with their daughter too. I am so sad because they have to leave for 6+ months for a job. They will be coming back which I am very glad about but it was so hard to see them go!I couldn't bear to tell Danika that she wouldn't see her friend for a very long time. How do you explain that to a toddler who doesn't have a grasp on time yet? I didn't want to make her as sad as I was. I will miss our friends very much and I'm not sure yet what I'm going to tell Danika when she asks to go play with her friend. I hate these mommy moments!

You could make a playdate for when they are back and explain it's after Halloween, and Christmas and VAlentine's (or whatever) and put an X on a 2011 calendar!
I'm just so happy for you that they are coming back! As the wife of a military retiree, I know how hard it is to say goodbye to friends knowing that you will probably never see them again! Thankfully, we have been blessed to see some of our dearest friends again because they now live in the same state as we do. We only see them a few times a year, but it is so much better than never. If they ever try to leave this state, I will probably lay on the ground in front of their car. LOL!
