Bringing Home Baby Event! Oh Plah! Bracelet Review!

Oh Plah! is a stylish bracelet that mom can wear and baby can use as a toy or teether. Oh Plah! comes from the French phrase "here you go". I think every mom would agree that babies naturally tend to gravitate toward chewing on your jewelry so it only makes sense to have baby friendly jewelry that is actually safe for them to chew on.
The Oh Plah! comes in many different colors and I received this "Sychronicity" one to review. Aiden isn't old enough to chew on anything yet, but I love that I can use it as a reminder of which side to nurse on by switching wrists. Once he gets older he can chomp away on it!

You can buy the Oh Plah! on their site for $19.99. It has received much recognition in parenting magazines and other press. It would make for a unique baby shower gift too! Visit their site and check out all the cute colors they offer!

Bringing Home Baby Event! iCandy Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway!

Thursday, January 28, 2010 874
Urban Fluff has come out with a new diaper called the iCandy. Finally fashion meets function! I love this diaper because not only is it adorable, but it also holds in messes and the wrapper never gets dirty! It is a wonderful diapering system.
Here is a little from the site about how the iCandy diaper works:

We have been working a LONG time on perfecting this design! Our goal was to bring you a gorgeous diaper that featured tons of amazing designer prints BUT we would not tolerate any wicking or leaking! Our new innovative (patent pending) design features a snap-in, wipe-clean, elasticized, waterproof liner that completely contains any messes and keeps them off your super cute iCandy wrapper! Will wetness leak onto the outer cotton print? NO! Why? For the same reason that your baby’s cotton clothing doesn’t get wet when wearing a waterproof PUL diaper cover. Our snap-in liner is not sewn to the cotton in any way, so there’s no chance for wetness to seep through. It has gentle gussets all around that keep leaks at bay. And the soft, micro-chamois binding means no red marks or irritation on baby’s legs.

We haven’t even gotten to the soaker pad yet! Our new soakers are made from three thirsty layers of microterry topped with premium microfleece (for a stay-dry feeling) and quilted for superior absorbency and comfort. Simply lay the soaker inside your snap in liner and you’re ready to go!

Our 3-part system makes cloth diapering even more economical, reliable, and of course, fashionable. Once you try it out you’ll see how simple it really is! When baby is wet, just remove the wet soaker and replace with a fresh one. If the snap in liner is soiled simply snap out the whole liner and soaker and replace with a fresh one. You’ll almost never have to change your iCandy wrapper!

Here is the adorable sock monkey iCandy on Aiden. Isn't it cute?! :) It fits him great and has never leaked. We've been using it for about a month now and have never had a leak and never had the wrapper get soiled! I am impressed at how well the 3 part design works. It really protects the outer wrapper from getting dirty and prolongs the life of the diaper since you don't have to wash the wrapper very often. This means your fabric stays bright and new!

I also noticed that newborn poop tends to stain most diapers I've used and the iCandy has resisted the stains better than most other diapers have. They wash up great! I like the snaps and the adjustable fit. They are available in two sizes, infant which fits birth-20 lbs and toddler which fits 15-35 lbs.

You can buy the iCandy diaper system at locations listed HERE. They are about $24.95 and include the wrapper, snap in liner and soaker. The 3 part system is a good value. I really like this diaper and would definitely recommend it. It is also an easy diaper for babysitters and dads to use. You can put them together before use to make them function like an all in one for those who aren't familiar with them.

Win! One lucky reader will win an iCandy Toddler Size Diaper System in your choice of print!!

This giveaway has ended. Congrats to the winner:

Bringing Home Baby Event! Sweetsation Therapy Review & Giveaway!!

Sweetsation Therapy has become my favorite companies. I am in LOVE with all of their products both for myself and my babies. I used their products while I was pregnant and theirs was the only lotion that didn't cause my sensitive skin on my tummy to become irritated. I swear by their products. They are organic and natural and safe for mom and baby. Although they are geared toward pregnant mamas and babies many people who are not pregnant use their products because they work so well. Natalja, the mom and creator behind it all is so sweet and wonderful to work with. She created the products for her own child so you can rest assured that only the best of the best ingredients go into each product.

Here is a little more about the company:

Sweetsation Therapy supports moms-to be of all ages and wants them to grow and glow, feel their best and enjoy their pregnancy and motherhood. We provide Organic and Natural Maternity skin care treatments to prevent stretch marks, beautify, protect and brighten the skin while preventing aging safely. We search out the world to bring only the best and the safest ingredients , to be used in our skin care and each have been teratology screened. We continue looking after your family by offering Organic and Natural Baby skin care to sooth and pamper delicate babies' skin, prevent diaper rash and .... prevent aging with antioxidants, because the aging starts the day we are born.Wide selection of gift sets and innovative baby carriers will help you find that perfect gift for mom or baby. Even though our skin care products are designed with mother's-to be safety in mind, they can and should be used by anyone.

I received several products to try out on my newest little bundle, Aiden. I was very excited to try them all because of my love for their pregnancy products. The first product I fell in love with is the Organic Calendula Butter Cream. When the products arrived Aiden was literally molting out of his skin. He was dry and peeling all over. I started using all of the products and his skin is not dry at all anymore and it isn't peeling either.

You can use the Calendula Butter Cream on baby's face and body. It is ideal for dry or very dry skin, distressed, chapped or burned skin. The high content of Cocoa Butter gives this product a very yummy slight chocolate aroma. I just love the light aroma of it. It soaks in really fast too and isn't heavy or hard to rub in.

I am in love with the Chamomile Chub Stick Diaper Ointment too. I absolutely love the applicator which means you don't have to get your hands dirty when you apply it to baby's bottom. Just slide it on and you are done! It goes on white which is nice because you can see where you've applied it. It works great on diaper rash and clears it up quickly. I absolutely love that not only does it work great but it is so easy to use too. I can't say enough about it. Buy it!

For Aiden's first bath we used nothing but the best to wash him up. The Bubbles 'n Bubbles Organic Foaming Shampoo and Body Wash for Babies was wonderful. It smells like oranges! Coming in a foam bottle it produces very soapy soft foam that is so comforting for entire baby's body. Nettle Extract acts as nourishing, anti-inflammatory agent that soothes irritation and itchiness of the scalp and skin. Papaya fruit contains the enzyme papain, which has wonderful antibacterial, healing and exfoliating properties - removing damaged and dead skin, helping to reduce Cradle cap. You could smell the orange smell just walking by him, it was yummy!

The Bottoms Up Organic After Bath Soft Massage Oil is the perfect product to help you massage your little one after bath time. It has a soft citrus scent and will be sure to spoil your little one with a lovely massage. Aiden enjoys his little massages and it helps calm him down. It helps in treating various skin problems including dry skin, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Baby's mommy will love it too, I know I do!

I have saved the best for last! My absolute favorite is a fairly new product that smells like....Chocolate!! It is so yummy I could just eat him up! He smells wonderful! It is my favorite and it is funny because people have been holding him and wondering what smelled like chocolate and I say he does! Not only does it smell heavenly, but it also works great too. We use both the Yummi Tummi Organic Baby Choco Butter and the Choco Smooch Organic Lip & Face Balm. Choco Smooch baby lip and face balm comes in a jumbo size of 0.75oz, which is 5 times bigger then a regular lip balm. Keep it handy for those dry baby lips and cheeks, especially during the cold time of the year. Both the butter and balm can be used on the face and body and I've been very happy with the results. Aiden's forehead was really dry and I was reluctant to use any lotions on his face because his skin has been really sensitive. It worked great and didn't cause him to break out at all. I love the stick applicator. It makes it easy to put on even squirmy babies. The Choco Butter is my absolute favorite and we use it everyday. I use it on him head to toe and it works great and he smells divine!

You can buy all of these amazing organic products on the Sweetsation Therapy site as well as online retailers listed HERE. One site that carries their products is Amazon.com. My awesome readers can get 20% off their purchase at Sweetsation Therapy by entering code: Minnesota mama That is a great deal!

Win! One very lucky reader will win my two favorite products, Choco Butter and Choco Smooch (pictured above) Chocolate Yum Yums Set!!

Ugh...I have mastitis!

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 14
So it all started Sunday night. I wasn't feeling the best and had a headache and it hurt to nurse on my right side. I didn't think much of it. Monday I was feeling pretty crappy but wasn't sure why. I just had a pounding headache, a fever and a sore breast. All classic signs of mastitis. I was in denial and hoping it would just go away and not be mastitis. Monday night my fever was 101.5 and my headache was miserable. My breast hurt all the way up into my armpit and I knew that I had mastitis. I was hoping to avoid going to the doctor because we were supposed to have dentist appointments today and a much needed haircut as well. I caved when my fever started up again and I couldn't take anymore. I had a 101.5 fever and was shivering under three blankets. I called my doctor and they got me in right away thankfully. I had to cancel the dentist but this was more important. So I went to my doctor and got my antibiotics so now I should be feeling better in a couple of days. I'm hoping they kick in sooner than later! So forgive me if the blog is slacking!!

Mastitis is no fun, but if you ever think you have it, don't wait to go to your doctor! I've heard horror stories of how terrible it can get. My own sister waited when she had it and ended up in the hospital for four days. It was her urging that pushed me to call the doctor. I've also heard horrible stories of the doctor having to lance the breast and let it heal open. Ahhhh that makes me hurt! Can you imagine? Terrible! Anyway, here are the symptoms for you nursing mamas:

Fever-my fever also came and went which made me think I was getting better when I wasn't
Pain in one breast that can radiate up the arm and hurt when you move your arm
I had a headache which is probably related to the fever
Red Streak on your breast
Lump in your breast

Even though it hurts like crazy to nurse you need to keep nursing! It also helps to wear a looser fitting bra and massage the breast if you feel like you are getting a clogged duct.

So I thought I would also let you know that out of all of the thermometers I have reviewed the one I have been using during all of this to monitor my temp is the Vicks Thermometer. I've been using it orally and feel it is the most reliable because there is no technical aspect to worry about when you take the temp. You just need to make sure you haven't drank anything before taking it. It also happens to be one of the most inexpensive ones at less than $10. You can also use it on your baby either rectally or orally. It also flashes green, yellow or red to tell you what range your temp is in (and if it is a mild fever or a high fever). I just wanted to share that because you don't need to spend a pretty penny on a thermometer if you don't want to. The least expensive ones can be just as good or better! I like that it works for infants all the way to adults. Now I should say I wasn't paid to write this and I already did the review for the product awhile back. I'm simply writing this on my own to share my thoughts and let you know. I'm also relying on my new Bravado sleep bra which is part of their new line in Target stores. That review will be coming soon. The last thing I'm using that I've reviewed in the past and shared with you are the Florastor Probiotics. Since I am on antibiotics I want to avoid antibiotic associated diarrhea as well as try to avoid the chances of Aiden getting thrush from my antibiotics in the milk. So like I said I wasn't asked to write this, I just wanted to share my favorite things I've reviewed that helped me through this.

Hopefully I'll be feeling better soon! Thanks for listening to me :)

Bringing Home Baby Event! Bummis Organic Cotton Diaper Kit Review & Giveaway!

Bummis began as the proverbial “kitchen table business”, started by 3 mothers who were using cloth diapers on their own babies and were inspired to create the products they themselves needed. That was way back in the 1980’s. It remained a home business until it grew too large to fit into any home! Since then, Bummis has grown and prospered while staying true to the vision that inspired its inception and the values that fuelled its growth.

They believe that once parents see how easy it is to use cloth diapers, they will use them! So they focus on making it easy – through the products they design and distribute, the washing and using information they disseminate and the customer service they are so passionate about.

I was very excited to be able to review the Bummis Organic Cotton Diaper Kit. As a newbie to cloth diapering I was wondering if it would live up to its claim of including everything you need to start cloth diapering now and that you didn't need to be cloth diaper savvy to appreciate it. Well, I am not cloth diaper savvy (although I'm learning quickly), but I certainly appreciate how well thought out this kit is. It truly includes everything you need to get started with cloth diapers from the day it arrives. I love that a newbie to cloth diapering can simply order the box kit and be ready to go without worrying about whether or not they have everything they need.

Above is a picture of my little Aiden wearing his Bummis diaper. He is only about 2 weeks old in this photo so you can see it fits well. There are two different sized kits available, infant and baby. The infant kit is for 8-15 pounds and the baby kit is for 15-30 pounds. I had planned on waiting a month or so while I recovered from my c-section in order to avoid the extra laundry of having him in cloth diapers. What I found was that he was wearing the disposables and blowing right out of them all over his clothes so I was doing stain removal and tons of laundry anyway. Once I switched to cloth diapers the only extra laundry I had was the diapers and I didn't have to worry about getting the stains out of his outfits anymore! I have to say this surprised me.

The Infant size contains:
• 24 infant size Organic Cotton Prefold diapers (4 x 8 x 4 layers thick)

• 4 Super Whisper Wraps – small

• 2 Super Brites – small

• 3 rolls Bio-Soft liners – small

• 5 reusable Fleece Liners

• 1 Fabulous Wet Bag – large (available exclusively in the Kit!)

• User Guide

The Baby size contains:

• 18 baby size Organic Cotton Prefold diapers (4 x 8 x 4 layers thick)

• 2 Super Whisper Wraps – medium

• 2 Super Brites – medium

• 1 roll Bio-Soft liners – large

• 5 reusable Fleece Liners

• 1 Fabulous Wet Bag – large (available exclusively in the Kit!)

• User Guide

The Super Brite diaper cover fits Aiden the best right now because he is still so little and it offers lycra leg gussets which fit well on skinny babies. I have put this cover on with the prefolds at night and he can wear it easily all night without any leaks. It works wonderfully!

The kit also comes with 4 Super Whisper Wraps which also work great on Aiden. It fits well and will fit even better when he gets a little bigger. We use these during the day and haven't had any leaks so far.

The Organic Cotton Prefold diapers that come in the kit are very absorbent. I'm amazed at how much they hold. They are made of 100% organic cotton and make for a very affordable option for cloth diapering. Each set of six also comes with an organic cotton bag with snap closure. The kit comes with a user guide that shows you how to fold your prefolds for the best fit for your baby. I like the bikini twist which was a bit confusing at first, but a piece of cake after doing it a couple of times. It is the best fold for holding that runny, newborn poop.

I also liked the fleece liners that come in the kit. They work great for those times you need to use diaper cream and want to protect your diapers. The Bio-Soft liners that come in the kit also work well for this. They are great for traveling as well and are softer than other liners I've used.

The wet bag that is included in the kit is huge and works great. We've been able to use that as our sole diaper pail right now. It also washes up well and comes out looking just as bright as when it went into the wash! The large wet bag is also exclusive to the kit! You will also get a sample of Bum Bum Balm which works great on diaper rash.

All in all this kit is a great value and truly includes everything you need to get started cloth diapering. We have been able to use this kit alone with Aiden and it is plenty of diapers. With the prefolds and 6 covers you have plenty of diapers. This kit would make an excellent baby shower gift or a gift for your grandchild.

You can find a retailer online or near you where you can buy the Bummis Kit HERE.

Win! One lucky reader will win a Bummis Organic Cotton Diaper Kit (just like the one I reviewed) in your choice of infant or baby size!! This is around $169 value!

My Favorite Buffalo Hot Wings Recipe! They taste just like the restaurants!

Sunday, January 24, 2010 4
It is Sunday and our Minnesota Vikings are in the NFC Championship Game. If they win they go to the Super Bowl! I am not a huge football fan, but it is definitely exciting being so close to going to the Super Bowl. We are watching the game and had my absolute favorite Buffalo Hot Wings while we watched. They taste just like the awesome wings you get at a restaurant only you can save yourself some money and eat them at home! Here is the recipe, it is super easy.

2 1/2 lb chicken wings
1//2 C Franks RedHot Sauce
1/3 C melted butter

Deep fry wings for 12 minutes at 400 degrees. If you want them to be healthier you can bake them at 425 degrees for 1 hour (although it is the deep frying that makes them taste like the restaurants)
Combine sauce and butter and dip wings to coat.
Serve with ranch dressing or blue cheese and celery.

Enjoy!

Help! I need some cloth diaper advice please!

You all know I am a newbie to cloth diapering. I know a lot of you are seasoned cloth diaperers and I need your know how. I need some advice with stink issues! I'm thinking I probably washed too many diapers at once. The last load I did smell fine before the kids use them but once they pee in them they smell horribly of amonia. What do I do to get the stink out? And what did I do wrong? Thanks!!

Bringing Home Baby Event! NUK Review!

For over 50 years, NUK has helped to provide the healthiest start for babies with products that are safe, simple and enhance babies’ orthodontic development. All NUK products meet and exceed all U.S. and international safety standards and are BPA free. When Danika was born we tried many different brands of pacifiers and let her choose which one she liked. She chose the NUK brand and wouldn't take anything else. Ever since we have been faithfully using NUK brand products and we love them. I was excited to hear that NUK is coming out with over 25 new products this month. I had the great opportunity to review some of them.
I received the Reusable Nursing Pads to try out. The reusable nursing pads were designed to help keep clothes protected and dry - and can be used over and over again.

Features and Benefits:

•Natural and sustainable, 100% cotton inner lining
•Absorb moisture and protect clothing
•Economical and convenient
•Can be worn with regular or nursing bra

I like that they are affordable and can be used over and over again. With Danika I used only disposable pads and while I think they wicked away moisture a little better and held more liquid, I think the NUK pads are a more affordable option. The disposable pads I used cost almost $10 a box and with the NUK reusable pads you can stock up on a few boxes and save a ton. I found that by doubling them in my bra they held a lot and I didn't have problems with them leaking. I am still in early nursing stages so as my milk gets more regulated I won't be leaking as much and they will work even better.

I was also able to try the NUK Gentle Moisturizing Balm. The Gentle Moisturizing Balm helps to soothe tender nipples with a formula that is safe for mom and baby too.

Features and Benefits:

•To relieve chapped, tender nipples
•Unique applicator glides on smoothly with no need to rub in
•No need to wash off before feeding baby
•Lanolin-Free
•Hypoallergenic

I loved how easy it was to apply with the stick applicator. It wasn't messy and I didn't have to get my hands dirty. It worked well to soothe and protect. The one thing I noticed was that I wasn't a huge fan of the smell after it had been on my skin for awhile. That said I liked everything else about it. It is also very affordable at just $4.96 each.

The last nursing product that I received were the Store 'N Go Breastmilk Containers. Our breast milk containers were designed to help mom easily store expressed milk when necessary.

Features and Benefits:

•Hygienic storage from expressing to feeding
•Practical storage allowing mom to express and freeze milk in the same container until feeding time
•Fits NUK® Gentle Flow™ manual breast pump and all NUK® wide neck nipples

They come in a 3 pack and I love the blue color. They work with the NUK manual breast pump and while I don't have that pump I found them very useful. They work great for storing milk and then heating it up in the NUK bottle warmer. They can also be used for storing baby food and heating it up. They have a place to write the date on the bottle and work with the NUK nipples so you can just pop on a nipple and you are ready to feed your baby! These are a great option for daycare or sitters to use because they don't have to transfer the milk from one container into a bottle. All they have to do is attach the nipple. They sell for $9.96 for a pack of 3.
You can buy all of the NUK products at retailers near you including Target, Wal Mart, Babies R Us and more listed HERE.

*I was provided the products for review and was not compensated for this review. My opinions are solely my own.
