Cynthia Brooks: January 27, 2012 12:18 PM; The worst weather I've been in was in Tennessee when we were going to visit my mother in law. The rain almost felt like hail, and I a Californian, really had never seen weather that bad. We do have our storms in California but where I live on the Central Coast of California I have never seen it hail.

BethElderton: January 27, 2012 3:22 PM; Having lived most of my life in the deep south near the gulf coast, there have been many scary storms--hurricanes, huge thunderstorms, tornadoes, even hail. I think the wind that comes with a bad storm is the scariest whether driving or inside.

debbie: January 27, 2012 3:31 PM; I have had lots of experiences with storms. I was in the middle of a a tornado once. It truly does sound like a train coming. The sand it blew felt like glass on my face. I am very lucky to have not been hurt.
Both my parents were struck by lightening when I was younger.

one frugal lady: January 27, 2012 6:41 PM; I lived in Oklahoma for about 6 months when I was in middle school... and leave it to me to run off with some kids chasing a tornado! We had a blast, but as I look back, it was pretty dumb!

Eileen: January 27, 2012 11:28 PM; My closest call was when I was about 12 and went to my aunt and uncles house to stay and help when they had a new baby. I was scared being about 2 hours away from my family. We were playing in the yard with the kids when it started hailing in the summer. My uncle came out of the barn and told screamed at us to get into the barn fast. We heard the loudest rush and huddled until it passed. When we went outside I remember nothing else but how cool a HUGE tree had been twisted at the base and branches all over. I had not idea that I SHOULD have been scared. Not until about 15 years later when my brother and his wife lost their home to a tornado in the middle of the night, and 9 of the neighbors right on their street got killed, did I know the devastation and power of a storm like that. We went to help with clean up...it is a humbling and hopeless feeling to walk amidst those ruins where everything is leveled and all you see is shredded clutter.

I'd love to win the book SO much. My son and I share a love for this subject!

Shelly: January 28, 2012 8:30 AM; My closest call was this past summer when Hurrican Irene hit the east coast. A large pine tree fell on a car that was 2 cars ahead of us and we almost slammed into the 2 cars. It was terrible and then we had 2 weeks of major flooding.

sweetpea08: January 28, 2012 11:11 AM; When I was 7 we were visiting a farm and a tornado passed through while we were there, I just remember trying to run to shelter and I kept feeling like I was going to be blown away and then we had to sit in a very dark room until it passed. Fortunately it was just a very small tornado.

Romapr: January 28, 2012 1:41 PM; I don't really have a great storm story. I love thunderstorms though and sometimes I've been outdoors when I shouldn't have been. I've also felt the some small quakes. They were strong enough to make the light fixtures on the ceiling shake and made me queasy. Not quite the as cool as a tornado. I want to chase one some day.

won: January 28, 2012 8:25 PM; My closest call with a storm was two years ago. I was actually on the phone with a friend who lives in Louisiana. The storm came hard.

I remember telling her the trees were swaying and it looked violent out there. I thought I was being ridiculous though since she lived in LA and had been through the worst, you know?

Later I found out that I had just seen a hurricane force in Michigan. Who'd have thought it?
