This month I’ve been covering safety tips for your home and your family. One thing that was drilled into me from the time I was a child was fire safety. Growing up with a Dad who was a volunteer fireman he was always talking to us about fire safety and how important it is. He saw on a regular basis just how easily fires got started and how damaging they could be. That’s why I’m bringing you these great products from Kidde this month in an effort to get you to evaluate how safe your home is.
Something every home should have is a carbon monoxide detector. It’s a silent killer and could wipe out your entire family before you even knew something was amiss. My husband lost a friend to carbon monoxide and it is something that is so devastating and completely avoidable with a detector in your home. You should have one on every level of your home and near bedrooms.
The Kidde KN-COSM-B Battery-Operated Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm combines two important safety devices into a single unit. This alarm includes a voice warning system that announces “Fire, Carbon Monoxide, Low Battery, or Smart Hush Activation.” The voice alarm eliminates any confusion and clearly warns you and your family of a smoke or carbon monoxide danger, or if your battery is in need of replacement. This unit uses three AA batteries, protecting you and your family even during a power outage.
Cooking is the leading cause of house fires in the U.S. In addition to your primary home protection, fire experts recommend adding UL-rated fire extinguishers for supplementary protection in the kitchen. The Kidde FX10K Kitchen Fire Extinguisher is designed to provide supplementary fire protection for your home, as it is UL- rated for specific hazards, such as common kitchen cooking fires and energized electronic equipment. You can place a kitchen fire extinguisher near your countertop or in a drawer or cabinets, but make sure it is close at hand for emergency use.
Many kitchen fire products use a mix of chemicals that are not food safe. Cleaning up the sticky residue left after even a small grease fire can be quite a chore. This Kidde fire extinguisher uses a non-toxic sodium bicarbonate powder that’s easy to clean up and is electrically non conductive, an important feature for kitchen fires.
This Kidde Fire Extinguisher is durable and easy to use. The fire extinguisher is warranted for 10 years, and its metal pressure gauge helps ensure that the fire extinguisher is charged and ready for use. This extinguisher is durable and corrosion resistant, featuring a rust- and impact-resistant nylon handle and a light-but-durable aluminum cylinder. The sure-grip handle and operating lever make it less likely for the extinguisher to slip from wet or oily hands and easier to operate for people with arthritis or weakness of the fingers.
When I was little I remember having a fire escape ladder under my bed and it wasn’t anything like this Kidde escape ladder, it was huge! It was probably as big as I was at 8 years old. It barely fit under my bed. I remember my Dad making us practice escaping the house out the window with the ladder. At the time I thought it was a little crazy but now I realize that he was smart to prepare us for the event of an emergency. We knew exactly what we needed to do if our house should catch fire. Well, I’m happy to find this great COMPACT ladder from Kidde.
Kidde Escape Ladders offer a quick and easy escape from two- or three-story homes. These life-saving ladders store compactly, deploy quickly, and keep you prepared for the possibility of fire and other emergencies. Kidde Escape Ladders attach quickly to most windows, and they are tangle free, stretching out to form a flame resistant, durable, and sturdy ladder that can support up to 1,000 pounds.
You should have one in every occupied room of your home that is above the main level. You certainly don’t want to be jumping out 2 or 3 story windows in the event of an emergency and you want a safe way to get your kids out should you have a fire.
How safe is your home? Are you ready in the event of an emergency? Visit Kidde to take their home safety audit to see how safe your home is! Don’t be caught in an emergency wondering what to do. Prepare yourself and your family so everyone can be safe and know the plan!
