In spring of 2003, I was laid off. As a single mother of two children, I was petrified.

In fall of 2004, my eleven year old daughter died. I think that being laid off was a huge blessing and gift. I'm so grateful I got to spend all that time with her...I'm so glad I was unemployed the last year and a half of her life.

I also thought there was no way I would ever stay at home. I thought it would be boring- i mean geez what can a person do in their house all day long...... With three kids ages 8, 3, and 10 months it's really not hard to find stuff. Between the sports of my 8 year old and fulfilling the constant needs of the other two it's really not hard- oh ya and there is house work to be done.....I absolutely love staying home to watch my kids grow every day

I personally enjoy being a stay at home mom. It does not get boring, thats for sure. I actually get to wrok from hom, I do freelance web design. It is very true that staying home saves money. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I enjoy staying at home.. I didn't start work and school again until my oldest was in high school. Few years later we had our newborn grandson that we decided to step in and raise. It sure was harder this time, with day care, losing sleep, missing days if he was sick or making doctor appointments. I decided when he was in 5th grade to step down from work and stay at home.. it did save us money on day care, I really enjoyed stepping up to be his room mom and attend his school parties. If I had to do over, I would definitely choose to stay at home when he was younger. We help out and babysit our grandchildren before and after school to help save on day care for our children that live nearby.

I found your blog through googling Minnesota blogs... I am also in MN and this post has inspired me to think a lot harder about trying to stay home with my kids... I only have 1 so far and he's 2 but I really strongly dislike having to part ways with him in the mornings... it's actually heartbreaking. I need to reevaluate. Thank you.
